Payout Accountant

Job Summary
Responsible for preparing reports and analyzing data to calculate, monitor and track well payouts.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Calculate, monitor & track well payouts
  • Review and process division of interest changes and if necessary, reverse and rebook expenses associated with such changes
  • Respond to owner inquiries
  • Setup and monitor payouts for new AFE projects and acquisition/divestiture activity
  • Prepare macros for manual payout calculations
  • Perform tracking of all operated and non-operated payouts
  • Perform audits once well has reached payout to ensure all drilling/completion, overhead, and LOE have been captured before applicable parties receive an interest or increase of interest in the well
  • Respond to inquiries internally and externally regarding payout wells
  • Prepare quarterly reports for management on high profile payout wells
  • Develop program to improve the accountability of a payout's life cycle
  • Work closely with Land and Division Order Analysts to ensure the correctness of the components of the well’s payout
  • Analyze documents such as, JOA, operating agreements, and Exhibit A's, for a well's payout types and stipulations
  • Ensure overhead expense is properly charged monthly to each payout well
  • Test new revenue reports created by the revenue support team and compare the results to current revenue reports utilized to ensure accuracy of data

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area
  • Minimum 3 years oil and gas experience in Payout Accounting, Joint Interest Billing, or Revenue Accounting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Experienced with P2 Excalibur Accounting software a plus
  • O&G Revenue and JIB cycle experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines

Physical Requirements

  • Normal office setting, requiring frequent sitting
  • Use of computer equipment on a regular basis
  • Other duties as required
